چکیده

We consider rupture of thin viscous lms in the strong-slip regime with small Reynolds numbers. Numerical simulations indicate that near the rupture point viscosity and van-der-Waals forces are dominant and that there are selfsimilar solutions of the second kind. For a corresponding simpli ed model we rigorously analyse self-similar behaviour. There exists a one-parameter family of self-similar solutions and we establish necessary and su cient conditions for convergence to any self-similar solution in a certain parameter regime. We also present a conjecture on the domains of attraction of all self-similar solutions which is supported by numerical simulations.

Slip vs. viscoelasticity in dewetting thin films.

Ultrathin polymer films on non-wettable substrates display dynamic features which have been attributed to either viscoelastic or slip effects. Here we show that in the weak- and strong-slip regime, effects of viscoelastic relaxation are either absent or essentially indistinguishable from slip effects. Strong slip modifies the fastest unstable mode in a rupturing thin film, which questions the s...

Effects of Thermal Diffusion and Radiation on Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Chemically Reacting Fluid Flow Past a Vertical Plate in a Slip Flow Regime

An analysis has been conceded to study the effects of Soret and thermal radiation effects on the magnetohydrodynamic convective flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting fluid with heat and mass transfer over a plate with time-dependent suction velocity in a slip flow regime in the presence of first-order chemical reaction. The slip conditions at the boundaries for the governin...

Slip flow of an optically thin radiating non-Gray couple stress fluid past a stretching sheet

This paper addresses the combined effects of couple stresses, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation and slip condition on a free convective flow of a couple stress fluid induced by a vertical stretching sheet. The Cogley- Vincenti-Gilles equilibrium model is employed to include the effects of thermal radiation in the study. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a system o...

Similarity solutions for van der Waals rupture of a thin film on a solid substrate

Rupture of a thin viscous film on a solid substrate under a balance of destabilizing van der Waals pressure and stabilizing capillary pressure is shown to possess a countably infinite number of similarity solutions in each of which the horizontal lengthscale decreases like (tR2t) 2/5 and the film thickness decreases like (tR2t) , where tR2t is the time remaining before rupture. Only the self-si...

Sensitivity of 3d Rupture Dynamics to Fault Geometry and Friction Parameters the Friction Law

We scale the various parameters deening a 3D fault model (i.e. characteristic distance and time of a state friction law, size and aspect ratio of the fault, medium impedance) and derive two dimensionless parameters governing the typical dynamics of the fault through single or multiple ruptures. The diier-ent faulting regimes are illustrated by a series of numerical simulations. As the parameter...
